Hepatitis C

The first Bikram Yoga class I took was on 48th St in NYC. It was crowded, super hot and everyone was 100% focused in the mirror. I was so out of balance and stiff I couldn't even drop my head back in the first breathing series. I was trembling. I had myself convinced I was "too sick", to do something this extreme. As the class went on I noticed the teacher who was so vibrant was wearing an insulin pump. She was so inspiring, there was no way I could chicken out.

I survived the class and was lit up like a Christmas tree when I left. I couldn't remember ever feeling that alive. I had been sick, run down, depressed and in pain for so long from Hep C. I had left my job, moved to upstate NY and spent my days in my pajamas going from the couch to the bed.

I realized I had to do something drastic to get myself out of the black hole. I went to see Bikram and took his 9 week training class in LA. I had nothing to lose. I had already lost everything. Bikram gave me my life back and so much more. Every time I walk up a flight of stairs now I thank God for him. He was very tough but at the same time he wraps you in velvet. He taught me never to give up on myself or any other human being. "Everyone is worth it! They just need to be shown correctly how to do it."

The nasty voice of the virus doesn't get to me anymore. When I take a class I get to leave all my fears on the sweaty towel. After 90 minutes I am crystal clear, alive, and loving myself. Hep C is not a no win situation. Like Bikram says, "You must have bulldog determination. Like Bengal Tiger."

Weight Loss:It may not make me proud, but I'll admit it; I first came to yoga out of a desire to attain that lean, toned, fit "yoga body" that women

I am diabetic type 1 and have been injecting since 1989, when I was diadnosed age 6. I have been lucky to learn a great deal from my diabetes.

In March of 2002 my heart beat increased to 200 beats per minute. The electrical current in my heart malfunctioned due to the scar tissue from my 1985 heart attack. My good health from practicing Bikram yoga kept me alive.

This testimonial is the story of my personal recovery from debilitating pain from herniated discs through the practice of Bikram Yoga. This yoga gave me back my life.
