What is Karma for Kids: Karma for Kids is the first and only fund-raiser in the world dedicated to providing happiness and healing in the lives of children with cancer and their families, through the practice of yoga. Karma for Kids is a challenge for yoga practitioners (typically adults) from around the country to intensify their yoga practice within a 90 day time period to raise money and awareness for Camp Okizu, a summer camp for children with cancer and their families. Camp Okizu offers the unique opportunity for children with cancer, and their siblings to learn independence, nourish positive self-esteem and gain skills they never thought were possible. At camp, kids can be in a safe, trusting environment. It is a place for fun, lasting friendships and the development of self-confidence often creating the will to survive. How does it work? From September 1st to December 1st yogis and yoginis (that's you!) choose to practice a specified number of classes within the 90 day time period and raise a minimum of $1,000 to go the Okizu foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. You commit to practicing one of the following increments: 15 classes to be completed in 90 days 30 classes to be completed in 90 days 60 classes to be completed in 90 days 90 classes to be completed in 90 days When you sign up, you receive your 'good karma card', which allows you to keep track of how many classes you have completed. If the tradition you practice is meditative or done within your home, no worries, just mark down each time you practice in honor of Karma for Kids. Who can participate? Anyone and all levels can participate! If you have never taken a yoga class before, or if you practice every single day, Karma for Kids is for anyone who wants to change their body and make a difference in the life of a child with cancer. All yoga traditions are welcome and all ages are welcome. Studios of all traditions offer special Karma for Kids classes, workshops and perks to those individuals who are not only practicing karma yoga, but also taking this special, life-challenging step towards a healthier life. In addition, every month we host Karma for Kids mixers at studios, restaurants and clubs so you can meet others practicing karma yoga.
